  1. (1958-2016) a US pop singer and actor. He was born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis. In 1993 he changed his name into a symbol that nobody could pronounce, so he was called 'the Artist Formerly Known as Prince'. He changed his name back to Prince in 2000. He shocked some people with his sexual songs and performances on stage. He was the star of the film Purple Rain (1984) and won an Oscar for its music. He also wrote the music for Batman (1989).
